A confident pathway to senior school, tailored to every girl's strengths, aspirations and ambitions.

At Rowan Prep, we are proud of our strong record of preparing girls for a wide range of senior schools. Through expert guidance, personalised support and a close partnership with families, we help every girl find the senior school where she will thrive.

Senior school preparation begins early, with our Senior School Fair in Years 4 and 5, individual guidance from the Headmistress, and a carefully planned programme of academic preparation, interview practice and support throughout Years 5 and 6.

Alongside our established 11+ preparation programme, Year 5 girls have the opportunity to apply for a Year 7 place at Guildford High School (GHS) and Surbiton High School (SHS) through our Early Application Pathway.

As families begin planning for senior school, they have two pathways to consider:

  • Early Application Pathway to GHS and SHS
  • Standard 11+ Admissions Route 

Through a strong partnership between school and home, we help each girl navigate her own path with confidence, ensuring the right senior school destination for her talents, ambitions and character.

Early Application Pathway

As part of the United Learning family of schools, we enjoy strong partnerships with our sister schools, Guildford High School and Surbiton High School. Girls in Year 5 at Rowan have the opportunity to apply for a Year 7 place at either or both schools through our Early Application Pathway.

This optional pathway enables eligible pupils to receive an admissions decision by the end of Year 5, offering families greater clarity earlier in the senior school journey. Girls who receive an offer through the Early Application Pathway will not be assessed as part of the standard Year 6 admissions process but will need to sit the standard entrance assessment for benchmarking purposes and so that they may be considered for an academic scholarship.

The pathway sits alongside Rowan's personalised senior school guidance, providing an additional option for families considering GHS and SHS.

The Early Application Pathway is just one of the options available to Rowan families and participation is entirely optional. We have a strong track record of guiding families through the standard 11+ admissions process and our personalised approach to senior school preparation remains unchanged. 

Each year, Rowan girls move on to a wide range of excellent senior schools. Whatever route a family chooses, our commitment remains the same: to provide personalised guidance, expert preparation and unwavering support, ensuring every girl feels confident, well-prepared and excited for the next stage of her educational journey.

Our Approach to Senior School Preparation

At Rowan, we are proud of our strong record of helping girls secure places at a wide range of outstanding senior schools. Our personalised approach ensures that every family is supported throughout the process, enabling each girl to find the school where she will thrive.

  • Families attend our Senior School Fair from the start of Year 4, meeting representatives from a broad range of exceptional senior schools and exploring the options available.
  • Individual meetings with the Headmistress take place during Year 5 to discuss senior school choices and next steps.
  • Girls benefit from a strong academic focus on English, mathematics and reasoning, consolidating their learning through lessons, online assessments and practice papers.
  • Booster sessions provide additional support where needed, while all girls take part in individual and group interview preparation.

Girls are encouraged to achieve their very best in senior school assessments while continuing to enjoy the breadth and richness of a Rowan education. This balanced approach helps every girl move on with confidence to a senior school that is the right fit for her strengths, interests and aspirations.
