Reception

We guarantee a warm, exciting and caring atmosphere, dedicated and challenging teaching and excellent facilities.

The reception classes at Rowan provide an environment where your daughter’s learning will flourish. Every child’s abilities and talents are identified and developed through carefully planned, differentiated tasks, encouraging your daughter to become a self-motivated learner and confident communicator.

Encouragement is the key to motivation in the Early Years. We strive to begin each theme with a “Wow!” and end with a “Fabulous Finale!”

In Reception our girls access a broad and balanced curriculum that enables us to discover and nurture talents while developing a love of learning.

CREATIVE CURRICULUM

Our Magical Maths programme follows guidance from the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics and allows the girls to master skills to support future success. We use the Numberblocks to motivate and promote mathematical language during play. Our programme is differentiated to challenge and support all learners.

MAGICAL MATHS

Our Song of Sounds Phonics scheme teaches phonics using a range of teaching and learning styles. Our Recpetion girls delight in meeting Felicity the Phoneme Fairy who will teach a song, action, grapheme and picture for each sound. The girls learn to apply their phonic knowledge when reading and writing and you will be amazed by their creative story writing as they move on from Recpetion to Year 1.

SONG OF SOUNDS

The Reception curriculum is delivered by a team of experienced, passionate, specialist teachers.

The girls continue their Phonics and Mathematics education programmes in small classes with dedicated Early Years teachers. They enjoy their Get Active sports sessions, with focussed input into their physical development by our specialist sports staff. Girls learn a love of languages with our French teacher in Little Linguists; gain musical skills, many of which support early reading, in Music and Movement; develop confidence in Dramarama; and learn coordination in our Twinkle Toes Dance lesson. They gain excitement and enjoyment of books in our Library session and build resilience and care for the environment at Forest School.
