Rowan Prep Awarded Primary Science Quality Mark

We are delighted to announce that Rowan Preparatory School has been awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM), a nationally recognised accreditation that celebrates excellence in science teaching and leadership.

The Primary Science Quality Mark is a year-long professional development programme, led by the University of Hertfordshire and supported by the Primary Science Teaching Trust. It provides science subject leaders with training, mentoring, and a framework for evaluating and enhancing science across the school. Schools submit a reflective portfolio to demonstrate how they have strengthened science leadership, raised the profile of the subject, and inspired pupils through a rich and engaging curriculum.

Achieving this prestigious award is a recognition of Rowan’s commitment to ensuring every pupil has access to high-quality, exciting, and meaningful science learning experiences.

Science at Rowan

Science at Rowan is much more than a subject on the timetable. It is a way of thinking and exploring that helps our pupils make sense of the world around them.

  • Hands-on learning: Lessons are practical and enquiry-based, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and independent thinking.
  • Inclusive and inspiring: Every child is supported to engage with science at their own level, with opportunities to be challenged, explore different approaches, and learn in ways that work best for them.
  • Connections across the curriculum: Science links with many other subjects, helping girls see how knowledge and skills fit together.
  • Learning to think like scientists: Our pupils are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas, and reflect on evidence, developing the skills of scientific enquiry.

Our Head of Science, Mrs Sharma, and Curriculum Lead for KS1, Mrs Archer said:

“We are incredibly proud to receive the Primary Science Quality Mark. It reflects the hard work and enthusiasm of our teaching team, and most importantly, the passion our pupils show for discovering new ideas and thinking like scientists.”

Headmistress, Mrs Sarah Raja, added:

“At Rowan, we believe science should be exciting, relevant, and inspiring. This award is a wonderful recognition of the vibrant curriculum we provide and the curiosity our pupils bring to their learning.”

Looking Ahead

Rowan’s vision for science is clear: to nurture curious, confident learners who are inspired to investigate and understand the world in which they live. With this National Quality Mark now in place, we look forward to building on its strong foundations and continuing to provide dynamic science learning for every pupil.
