Rowan Facilities

Rowan Preparatory School is situated in Claygate, a quiet residential area of Surrey. Rowan Brae is on the site on which the school was originally founded in 1936 and Rowan Hill is a short walk away on a private road at the highest point in Claygate.

Both school sites are substantial detached properties that have been sympathetically extended to provide additional accommodation as the school has grown. They provide a homely environment with rooms which are excellently equipped for learning. All rooms have state of the art interactive electronic white boards which allow teachers and pupils to build up ideas & exploit multimedia techniques in lessons.

The more modern extensions at Rowan Brae provide purpose-built accommodation for the Early Years with each room having its own dedicated outdoor area providing a wide range of play based educational equipment. There is also a playground with Brae Cottage, a stage area & climbing frames along with a recently developed multisensory area including sand area, dig pit, willow den, story circle, and a grassed mound. A large general purpose hall is used for all types of group activities including gym, ballet, drama, assemblies and lunch. This is supplemented by specialist rooms for Art, Music and a Library.

Rowan Hill houses classrooms for Years 3 to 6, supplemented by specialist modern well equipped rooms for Science, ICT & Music. There is also a light airy Art / Engineering & Technology studio and a well stocked library. The large general purpose hall buzzes with activity from assemblies to gym, lunch to orchestra and many more. Outside to the front there are netball courts and at the back the legendary Spinney; a wooded & grassed area that fuels imaginative play time. At the edge of the Spinney is our light and airy Garden Room, an outdoor classroom used for a variety of extra-curricular activities and used to promote eco awareness across the curriculum.

As part of United Learning, Rowan pupils have shared use of extensive sports facilities situated about a mile from the school. These include netball / tennis courts, astro turf pitches as well as traditional grassed pitches and athletics tracks. Extensive enhancement of these facilities is planned to provide a Sports hall with state of the art gymnastics facilities along with development of additional all weather pitches and tennis courts.
