Year 6 had a wonderful day of historical exploration and musical appreciation when visiting Westminster Abbey and the Royal Festival Hall’s Gamelan workshop.
At Westminster Abbey, the girls had a unique tour of the Abbey, entering through the Royal doorway and receiving an informative guide of the historical importance and background of the Abbey. They even received an official welcome over the speaker from the Abbey which made the girls feel very special. At the education centre, the girls watched a historical video and made stained glass ‘Shrinkies’ as a souvenir to take home.
At the Royal Festival Hall, Y6 girls were invited to do a workshop that allowed them to experience the wonderful array of beautiful Javanese percussion orchestra known as gamelan, which was given as a gift to the Southbank Centre from the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to the people of Great Britain as a gesture of friendship. What a wonderful session of musical creativity!
