Rowan Sport Round up

13 December 2017

Rowan Sport Round up

It has been a busy end of year for all things sport at Rowan.  Girls have been involved in fixtures, rugby and football tournaments, house events and national competitions in gymnastics. Here is a round up of just some of the things the girls have been involved with.

Year 2 Netball

There has been great excitement in Year 2 during the end of this term with the girls taking part in their first ever netball fixtures. The first, an away fixture at Notre Dame, involved 2B where they played against Notre Dame, Downsend and Feltonfleet.

The second, a home fixture involving 2S, was against Longacre and Milbourne Lodge. All the girls were thrilled to be playing in the matches having practiced their skills during the term. The two afternoons were a perfect introduction to not only playing netball but also the sporting etiquette that comes with it. A big thank you to all the parents for coming to support the teams.

On Monday afternoon the girls all took part in house netball in the Hill Hall. The girls had plenty of enthusiasm in both playing the matches and supporting their house!  All girls played superbly but the overall winners with the most points were Heather House

Well done to all the Year 2 girls for a great term of netball we cannot wait to start hockey next term.

House Galas

A highlight of the sporting year are the house swimming galas and this term the Year 5 and 6 galas took place.  Every girl swam their best and fastest for the their house.  There were some extremely close races with more ties this year than any other. Children and parents raised the roof cheering for their houses.  In both year groups only a few points separated overall positions, in the end the Year 5 Winners were Heather House, with Hazel in 2nd place and the Year 6 Winners were Rowan with Rose a close 2nd.   Well done girls you all swam amazingly.

Year 4 Versatility Netball Winners

Girls in the Rowan U9 A&B netball teams played in their first ever versatility tournament at Aberdour, Surrey. This was a great opportunity for all the girls to play a different position in each match.  Despite early nerves both Rowan teams played fantastically using their netball knowledge and skills to settle into each new position they were given.  In the end the girls great netball skills paid off and both the A team and B team won the their tournaments.  Well done girls what a great afternoon of netball.
