Rowan Prep Sport Round up

2 April 2019

Rowan Prep Sport Round up

It has been another great term of sport at Rowan Prep packed full of masterclasses, fixtures, competitions and galas.  All the girls have been involved, we have had 80 matches across the term in hockey, netball, cross country, swimming, gymnastics, football and lacrosse.   Here are just a few of the highlights from the term.

Cross Country,

Rowan have competed in cross country events at Notre Dame, Manor House and GHS.  The girls selected from Y2 to Y6 all ran extremely well, a special mention must go to the girls from Y2 & 3 running in their first ever competitions and also to the Y5 team who won the individual gold and overall team gold in the U10's at the GHS competition.

Hockey

We have been treated to masterclasses from elite players from Surbiton, St Johns and KGS. Every girl in the school has put there skill to the test and played in a hockey fixture, we have also participated in the London and Surrey Cup competition at U11 and U10 age group with great success.  At the Rowan Prep U10 hockey tournament on Saturday 9 March, six local schools joined us for a super morning of hockey.  It was a huge success played with great sporting spirit enjoyed by the girls and spectators alike.

The highlight hockey tournaments of the year are the inter house competitions.  Every girl rose to the challenge of playing the best they could for their house.  The winning houses were Heather in Y3, Hazel in Y4, Rose in Y5 and  Hazel in Y6.

Football

The Rowan football squad have played a number of friendly fixtures against local schools. The girls have seen much improvement with their passing, movement with the ball, finding space and match play understanding.  The squad finished the term with the Longacre football tournaments.  We had successful time with mixed results but importantly the girls enjoyed themselves wanting to return next year.

Swimming

It has been a successful swim term for the Rowan swim squad, they have won two of the three gala fixtures this term and have qualified for the ESSA finals in May.  Good luck to all the girls competing.
