Rowan Preparatory School proudly sponsors the Claygate Choral Society, and on Saturday the school choirs were excited to also contribute to the Society’s evening concert at Holy Trinity Church, Claygate. The evening began with ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’, from Disney’s Toy Story, followed by a traditional Welsh song, ‘The Bells of Aberdovey’, sung by the Rowan Singers. The Senior Chamber Choir thoroughly enjoyed performing a Choral Medley from ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, and were delighted to be accompanied by our peripatetic teachers, Mr Adams on ‘cello and Mr Sweeney on drums. The Choral Society hired a beautiful Bechstein Grand piano for the event, and Mr Hope’s accompaniment added great depth and a professional feel to the girls’ singing. The programme continued with performances of Mathias’ ‘Shakespeare Songs’, Chilcott’s ‘Jubilate’ and Todd’s ‘Mass in Blue’, all impressively sung by the Claygate Choral Society. Of particular note was the soloist Augusta Hebbert, whose experience on the concert platform is extensive, and last performed ‘Mass in Blue’ at the Salisbury Festival with Will Todd. It was an absolute delight to hear her sing, and for the girls to be involved with such a prestigious community event.
