On Tuesday, a group of enthusiastic violin and ‘cello players from Years 4,5 and 6 attended a day’s orchestral workshop at Epsom College. They joined other pupils from 12 local prep schools to form a 140 piece string orchestra. The girls thoroughly enjoyed learning to play pieces from Vivaldi, Rossini, Bizet and Sibelius, finishing with an exciting and rousing arrangement of ‘New York, New York’. Lunch and a chance to play in the wonderful grounds of Epsom College were of course some highlights of the day, but above all the girls enjoyed spending time with likeminded children whose appreciation and deeper understanding of classical music was encouraged throughout the day. We were so pleased that many parents were able to attend the concert and share in the enjoyment of the event.
