On the hottest July day on record, Katie, Holly, Poppy and Esme, our public speaking competition winners from Years 5 and 6, stayed cool as they took on St Hilary’s School in an inter school match judged by Mr Alastair Morrison, Headmaster of Feltonfleet . The girls arrived, excited but very nervous about performing in front of a strange audience. Not that anyone would have known when they took the stage. All the girls performed brilliantly – giving their speeches with verve and passion. Mr Morrison found separating the speakers an incredibly hard job, but in the end chose Holly as overall winner of the Year 6 girls, with Esme coming second in the Year 5 group. Katie and Poppy were highly commended, with only a point or two separating the competitors. Both I and Mrs Clarke, who had come to add her support, were very proud of our budding orators. Not only were their speeches well-researched, clearly structured and highly persuasive, they were also delivered with maturity and a real understanding of how to work an audience. Well done to them all!
