On Wednesday 27 June, Year 6 performed their magical production of Mary Poppins. The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduced us to England in 1910 and the very troubled Banks family. As the beautiful set unfolded, we met young Jane and Michael and the story revealed that they had sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrived on the doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, we watched Mary teaching the family members how to value each other again. The visit to the steps of St Paul’s brought us to the Bird Woman and a stunning ballet performance, leading into the beautiful song, ‘Feed The Birds’. We followed Mary Poppins to the roof tops of London, where Bert and his fellow chimney sweeps cheered us all up with the lively tune ‘Step In Time’.
The audience were treated to many toe-tapping numbers, such as ‘Jolly Holiday’, ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ and ‘Let’s Go Fly A Kite’. The girls danced and sang their hearts out, and their energy and enthusiasm made sure the show would be memorable for many years to come. Even grown-ups learnt a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that ‘Anything Can Happen If You Let It’.
The show was truly ‘Practically Perfect In Every Way’!
