On Tuesday 27 March Years 1 - 3 enjoyed hearing all about the crazy antics of 'Piggy Handsome' and his illustrious ancestors. The author, Pip Jones, gave a very entertaining presentation explaining how she creates all the characters that appear in her books. She talked about how she came up with ideas for her books, usually from normal everyday occurrences which she then adapts and allows her imagination to run away with itself.
In the afternoon, the author Natasha Farrant came to visit Years 4 - 6. Natasha was an avid reader as a child and particularly loved Enid Blyton which she first read in French and then re-read all the books in English. Her new book, 'The Children of Castle Rock', is set in an unusual boarding school in Scotland where the children are sent on an orienteering challenge and a group of three go in search of a legendary castle! The girls were able to ask Natasha lots of questions, and certainly came away with lots of creative writing tips.
Thank you very much to Friends of Rowan for their support as always to the library and author visits.
The Rowan Big Read
On Wednesday 28 March all the girls and staff had the perfect opportunity to read their new books as we held 'The Rowan Big Read'. Girls and staff were asked to carry a book of choice with them throughout the day; when they heard a bell ring they had to stop whatever they were doing, pick up their book and read. It made for a fun day and oh, so quiet while we all enjoyed our books!
